Scarce enzyme which undergoes rapid autophosphorylation and dramatic (15-30-fold) activation. The enzyme phosphorylates and inactivates PP2A (GLO130-132, protein phosphatases). AK is involved in cytoskeleton organization and other signal transduction processes.
The purified preparations appear related to the catalytic domain of p21-activated p65PAK protein kinase (GLO116, this page), and is produced in cells undergoing apoptosis via a caspase-dependent pathway.
