Background

Leptin is a neuroendocrine hormone secreted from adipose tissue that plays a key role in regulating energy intake and energy expenditure, including appetite and metabolism. Leptin is one of the most important adipose derived hormones.1 It interacts with six types of receptors and once it binds to OBReceptor it activates the stat3, which is phosphorylated and travels to the nucleus to effect changes in gene expression. One of the main effects on gene expression is the downregulation of the expression of endocannabinoids.2 High leptin levels are associated with psoriasis.3
