Chemokine ligand 11 (CCL11) belongs to the CC chemokine family and is commonly known as Eotaxin-1. There are at least 27 distinct members of the C-C subgroup reported for mammals. CC chemokines induce the migration of monocytes and other cell types such as NK cells and dendritic cells. CCL11 (Eotaxin-1) selectively recruits eosinophils by inducing their chemotaxis, and therefore, is implicated in allergic responses. Endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, epithelial cells, alveolar macrophages and eosinophils are known to produce CCL11 (Eotaxin).
